Black and White
ACCI Gallery put out a call for art on the theme "The Gray Area":
The boundaries between light and dark, certainty and ambiguity—where do we find meaning in the in-between? "The Gray Area" is an upcoming art exhibition exploring the depth, nuance, and complexity of black, white, and the grayness in between.
We invite artists of all backgrounds and disciplines to submit works that embrace the monochromatic spectrum. Whether stark contrasts or soft gradients, abstraction or realism, this exhibition seeks to highlight the power of the grayscale in storytelling, emotion, and expression.
What color is silver?
This question, and the show brief, started me down a path of seeking black and white materials used in jewelry design. I started with a black and white stone, Zebra Jasper, and used that as inspiration to build a wearable composition with complimentary materials and textures. I began to find the yin and yang of jewelry design; soft leather and hard metal, straight lines and swooping arcs.
The silver setting becomes the gray area between the stone and the world, with areas of texture and high polish that follow the white and black of the stone below. The silver reflects the world in front of it. Therefor the pattern of the stone exists above and around the stone, but only through the reflection and distortion of the space nearby.

The exhibition is on display June 14 - July 13, 2025
